In the spotlight: Scenic Painter

Josh Corbett working on the set for The Green Room

In the spotlight this week is our scenic painter and sculptor Josh Corbett! Josh has worked on many projects for Trinity Set & Stage, from assembling flats together, to painting film premiere sets.

We love to show off the individuals who work hard to make Trinity Set & Stage prosper; from those who create the designs, to those who paint the finishing touches onto the set. Each member of the team is well respected and appreciated, for we wouldn’t be the company we are today without them!

Good morning Josh!

Please tell us a bit about what you do.

Good morning! I am predominantly a scenic painter and sculptor with experience in paint effects, poly carving mouldy making & design. Over the years I have studied in multi disciplinary mediums to create bespoke build elects for immersive theatre and corporate events.

When did you start working with Trinity Set & Stage?

I started working for Trinity set and stage in November of 2016. Trinity had acquired the task of managing the film premiere of ‘Fantastic Beasts and where to find them’ and had got in contact with me to create a broken brick wall effect for the main stage at Leicester Square.

What projects have you worked on?

Since working with Trinity we have worked on immersive bars for Sharps brewery, custom painted benches for WE100 & film sets for the current Green room interviews for Facebook live.

Previously I have also worked on projects for PlayStation’s 20th Anniversary, Stella Artois immersive event, Uncharted’s game release and many more.

How do you prepare for an event? where does the work begin and how does it end.

When preparing for an event crunching all of the design elements is key, once you have outlined the method of play you can get straight to build. With larger projects, there is always a creative sense of fluidity that has to be harnessed in perfecting the visual aesthetic.

What are challenges you during the preparation for an event? How do you overcome these challenges?

The most important thing is to correctly assign tasks and distribute them among the team. Usually, we do not have problems during the project preparation process.

In all production is an exciting and rewarding industry to be in, working alongside skilled craftsmen and creatives is a real buzz when perfecting your process. I look forward to working on many more immersive and custom build elements in the future.

Thank you, Josh!
